Drake to host boot camp for journalists covering Iowa Caucuses
Journalists from around the nation will fly to Drake University this next week for a specialized reporting “boot camp” on how to cover Iowa’s first-in-the-nation presidential contest. “Nominating a President 2016: How to Cover the Iowa Caucuses” will be held June 21-24. The workshop is offered through the Poynter Institute media training center in St. Petersburg, Fla., and funded by the McCormick Foundation of Chicago. Iowa hosts are the Drake School of Journalism and Mass Communication and the Harkin Institute for Public Policy and Citizen Engagement. The institute is designed to provide the foundation for responsible, substantive coverage of the presidential campaign, beginning in Iowa. It will include several informative sessions and events. Speakers will include Iowa political experts and journalists from the New York Times, CNN, Vox.com and the National Journal.
