24 Iowa companies make Inc. 5000 list
A Des Moines advertising agency has been ranked as the fastest-growing private company in the state, and was among 24 Iowa-based companies on the newest Inc. 5000 list released Wednesday by Inc. magazine.
Happy Medium was ranked No. 591 among the 5,000 fastest-growing companies in the United States, based on three-year revenue growth of 781 percent. The average company on the Inc. 5000 list achieved a three-year growth of 490 percent.
Founded in 2011 by Katie Patterson, Happy Medium currently has 15 employees and revenue of $3.8 million.
“I think we’re in a fantastic and very necessary industry, especially with the Web development that we do,” Patterson said. “Many people can build a website, but not everyone can do one that gets results — those comprehensive results are proven by our success.”
Happy Medium currently places media in six states and is seeking to expand its footprint nationally, Patterson said. The company also plans to launch its first physical product this fall, an interactive communications tool called Happy Boards.
“It’s actually something we created for our own entryway to greet guests. We had so many requests for it we decided to put it out as a product,” she said.
Ames-based Harrisvaccines came in as the No. 2 Iowa-based company on the list, with a three-year growth rate of 516 percent.
“I believe we owe our growth to a fantastic and ever-expanding team committed to researching and implementing cutting-edge technology in the animal health space,” Dr. Hank Harris, founder and CEO, said in a release. Harrisvaccines focuses on revolutionizing animal health vaccines.
The Inc. 5000’s aggregate revenue is $205 billion, generating 647,000 jobs over the past three years. The annual Inc. 5000 event honoring all the companies on the list will be held Oct. 21-23 in Orlando.
