Hubbell Realty Co. has stayed busy this week breaking ground, or watching such activity get washed away by the rain, on projects in Johnston and Des Moines.

Active professionals are the target market for 5Fifty5, a $13 million project to build 47 high-rent townhomes that are expected to be completed next year near the Raccoon River at 555 S.W. Seventh St.

Hubbell plans three different designs, with two- and three-bedroom options. All will have two-car garages. Some models will have a master suite with a private patio on the third floor, others will offer a partial third floor with a wet bar and access to a private rooftop patio. The patios will feature glass railings and pergolas. Rain caused the cancellation of a groundbreaking ceremony planned for Tuesday at the site.

The sun was shining Monday in Johnston when Hubbell broke ground on Cadence, a $26 million infill project on a little more than 8 acres at at 6300 Merle Hay Road that will offer 64 one-bedroom, 97 two-bedroom and 34 three-bedroom apartments, a two-story community room with a kitchen, an Internet cafe, a media room and access to the pool and patio. It is scheduled to open in late 2016.
