Six female entrepreneurs from across Iowa will have a chance this Thursday to pitch their business plans and needs to several investors at Iowa Women Lead Change’s inaugural Invest In She – Des Moines event.

Last week, IWLC announced the six entrepreneurs who will participate in the event. This year’s Invest in She – Des Moines contestants are:
  • Helen Adeosun – CareAcademy.com Inc.
  • Jeni Betts – Fresh Mediterranean Express.
  • Megan McKay – Peace Tree Brewing Co.
  • Ciji Mitrisin – Recycle Me Iowa.
  • Laird Nossuli – iEmergent.
  • Pam Patton – Patton’s Restaurant & Catering.
During the event, each entrepreneur will give a live pitch about her respective business and its needs to a panel of local investors. This year’s investors have committed to investing up to $30,000 in these women and their businesses.
This year’s panel of investors for the Des Moines event includes:
  • Becky Gibson – vice president, senior relationship manager, Wells Fargo Bank N.A.
  • Dr. Donna Grant – owner of Norwalk Family Dentistry.
  • Shazia Manus – CEO of the Members Group.
  • Lynn Schrader – past president of the National Association of Women Business Owners.
  • Camille Urban – BrownWinick Law Firm.
  • Connie Wimer – chairman and owner of Business Publications Corp.
IWLC first hosted the Invest in She event in 2014 in Cedar Rapids. The organization concluded its second annual Cedar Rapids event this past June, where investors awarded a total of $40,000 to Iowa female entrepreneurs.

The event was created in response to recent statistics released in the American Express OPEN State of Women-Owned Businesses Report. The most recent 2014 report revealed that Iowa ranks last in the nation for overall economic clout of female-owned businesses. This was the third consecutive year Iowa ranked at the bottom.

Members of the public can also purchase tickets to the Des Moines event, as investors will share what it takes to start a successful business in today’s economy. Tickets to the event are still available and can be purchased online.

More information about each entrepreneur and her business also is available online.
