Greater Des Moines homes that sold in August had been on the market an average 47 days, a 49 percent drop from the same time last year, the Des Moines Area Association of Realtors said today. “If homes were food, they would be hot cakes based on how quickly they are selling,” according to a release. Sales increased to 1,090 last month from 1,066 in August 2014. Pending sales increased to 1,122 last month from 1,001 a year ago. The median sales price was $182,250, a 9 percent increase over the year. Active listings stood at 3,890, a slight increase from July but still below the 4,109 homes that were for sale in August 2014.
