Healthiest State selects sites for AmeriCorps wellness projects
The Iowa Healthiest State Initiative, in partnership with Drake University, announced that AmeriCorps volunteers will be placed with six Iowa organizations at the end of this month. One full-time and one part-time volunteer will be placed to help foster health initiatives at each of the following organizations: Eat Greater Des Moines, Manning Regional Healthcare Center, city of Red Oak, Linn County Public Health, Madison County Health Care System and Dallas County Public Health Nursing Services. The volunteers will work for a year to foster healthier lunchrooms, safer walking routes to schools, community gardens and tobacco-free workplaces. The Healthiest State Initiative is continuing to recruit and select host organizations through the end of the month. Nonprofits, municipalities, schools and government agencies are encouraged to apply online.
