Some of the leading biotechnology startup companies in Iowa will have a new opportunity to connect with potential investors through an expanded event hosted by the Iowa Biotechnology Association.

The Iowa Biotechnology Association announced it will add a daylong Innovation Showcase to its annual Partnering for Growth summit on March 30-31 in Ankeny.

The Innovation Showcase is a response to biotech industry leaders and investors seeking to establish a gathering of innovators, inventors and investors to collaborate on their work, said Joe Hrdlicka, executive director of Iowa Biotech.

“We have established an expert panel for innovators to make presentations that will address important topics, including the development of biofuels and biomaterials, advances in food, ag and plant genetics, progress in animal health as well as human health and medical technology,” he said. “This event will help solidify Iowa’s position as a leader in bioscience.”

Matt Bell, a principal with the venture capital firm Cultivian Sandbox, will be the Innovation Showcase’s  keynote speaker. Iowa Economic Development Authority Director Debi Durham also will speak.

The forum will provide an opportunity for angel investors, seed capital funds, venture capital funds, investment firms, students and biotech leaders to hear from early-stage and midstage companies with the newest technology. The showcase will offer two different tracks for companies:
  • Animal health, ag and food-related companies.
  • Human and medical technology-related companies.
One early-stage company will be selected for a $5,000 prize. All presenters will have the opportunity to network with investors attending.

Applications to present at the Innovation Showcase will be accepted Oct. 1, 2015, through Jan. 8, 2016. For more information, click here.
