MPO offers grants for ‘complete streets’
The Des Moines Area Metropolitan Planning Organization is offering grants of up to $15,000 for projects that make area streets safer and easier to navigate for drivers, walkers, bicyclists, transit riders and people who use wheelchairs for mobility. Local governments, schools or public agencies must co-sponsor projects, and a local match of 25 percent is required. Extra points will be awarded to communities with a “complete streets” policy, which typically means roads are designed to accommodate walking, biking and other modes of transportation along with vehicles. Applications are due Oct. 15. Read more
