United Way of Central Iowa is seeking 225 volunteers for the upcoming 2016 Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program. Volunteers may work as tax preparers, quality reviewers and greeters throughout the 2016 tax season, from mid-January through the April 15 filing deadline. “VITA is a great way for accountants, financial professionals and retirees to give back to the community and help lower-income Central Iowans complete their tax return,” said VITA program manager Holly Sagar. United Way expects to file 6,000 taxpayer returns worth $10 million in refunds in 2016.  Volunteers must become IRS certified.
