Two members of the Iowa Women’s Hall of Fame pass away

143 wordsAll Latest News, Arts and Culture, Lift IOWARuby Sutton, a 2010 inductee to the Iowa Women’s Hall of Fame member and a longtime civil rights leader in Iowa died Sept. 1, at age 82. Sutton was a lifelong advocate for equality, and during the civil rights movement, Sutton’s family was one of only five African-American families in Dubuque. Sutton worked for Operation: New View Community Action Agency for 36 years to better the lives of those around her, building a voice for those who were voiceless. To view Ruby’s obituary, click here. Vicki Brown, 69, former commissioner for the Iowa Commission on the Status of Women and a sex equity instructor, also passed away two weeks ago. Brown was passionate about her involvement in sex equity education throughout the state and was an advocate for women and girls throughout her professional career.
