$900,000 in grants to fund paid internships for three Iowa colleges
Three Iowa colleges will collectively receive more than $900,000 in three-year internship grants from Great Lakes Higher Education Guaranty Corp., which will fund 537 paid internships for students with financial need. The grants are part of $12 million the Madison, Wis.-based student loan guarantor and processor made to 33 institutions in Iowa, Minnesota, Ohio and Wisconsin. In Iowa, Loras College received $410,540 for 184 new internships; Simpson College received $205,200 for 150 new internships; and William Penn University received $298,431 for 203 new internships. Each institution is required to cover an increasing percentage of funding for internships to make them sustainable past the grant period in 2018, the nonprofit said in a release.
