Iowa’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate decreased slightly to 3.6 percent in September from 3.7 percent in August, Iowa Workforce Development announced this morning. The state’s jobless rate was 4.3 percent one year ago. The U.S. unemployment rate remained at 5.1 percent in September. The number of unemployed Iowans decreased to 61,300 in September from 62,500 in August. The current estimate is 12,700 lower than the year-ago level of 74,000. “The unemployment rate continues to decline and reflects numbers not seen since 2006; this is good news for Iowans across the state,” said Beth Townsend, director of Iowa Workforce Development. The total number of working Iowans increased to 1,640,200 in September, up 2,600 from August and 2,700 higher than one year ago.
