ISU to offer health coach certificate program

Iowa State University has introduced an interdisciplinary health coach certificate for students seeking to add to their credentials in health care fields. The certificate, available to students in any major, is offered by the departments of food science and human nutrition, kinesiology, and psychology. “Iowa State University has strong research and teaching programs in the three essential elements of disease prevention — diet, physical activity, and mental health,” said Ruth MacDonald, professor and chair of the food science and human nutrition department. “The health coach certificate is designed to encourage students to utilize and integrate these elements to promote healthy lifestyles.” The program requires students to take 23 credits across the three disciplines, including a two-credit practicum course. Students who obtain the health coach certificate also have the option to take the American Council on Exercise Exam, administered by the largest nonprofit health and fitness organization in the world.
