Greater Des Moines home building icon Gerald “Jerry” Grubb died Jan. 3 at Mercy Hospice in Johnston. He was 84.
  
Grubb was born in Oskaloosa and graduated from Dowling High School in West Des Moines. He was a veteran of the Korean War.
 
In 1957, Grubb founded Jerry’s Homes, a company whose presence is seen in homes and apartment buildings throughout Greater Des Moines. 
 
“In an extremely volatile business as real estate he survived over nine recessions and tonight more Iowa families will sleep in a Jerry’s Home than any other builder,” grandson Adam Grubb, vice president of Jerry’s Homes Inc., said in an email.
