Joni Ernst said she will continue to fight implementation of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s definition of waterways that are subject to the federal Clean Water Act. On Wednesday, President Barack Obama vetoed a resolution that would have eliminated the Waters of the United States rule. The Senate failed to override the veto today. The rule is opposed by farm groups, including the Iowa Farm Bureau Federation. Iowa Secretary of Agriculture Bill Northey also criticized Obama’s veto of the resolution, saying in a news release that the rule is governmental overreach and that efforts should be made to adopt a definition that is acceptable to all stakeholders.
