Ankeny airport made $1 million in 2015 improvements; more in 2016
Ankeny Regional Airport invested more than $1 million in local, state and federal funds in 2015 to improve airport facilities to help meet increasing demand, according to a release. The improvements included facilities expansions, increasing runway approach area and lighting upgrades. The airport is the third busiest in the state and serves nearly nearly 40,000 corporate and private passengers annually. The Polk County Aviation Authority, which owns and operates the airport, completed the construction of six new hangars and granted land leases for construction of two new large private aircraft hangars, both of which are scheduled for construction this year. The current waiting list for general aviation hangars is approximately 30 persons. Contracts have been awarded for new perimeter fencing and lighting upgrades in all 84 tee-hangars and taxiways and runways, according to the release.
