Denson is betting on Albaugh horse to win Derby
Ankeny businessman Dennis Albaugh on Saturday provided an unusual incentive for Central Iowans to watch the Kentucky Derby this week.
Brody’s Cause captured a spot in this year’s 141st running of the Kentucky Derby by winning the Blue Grass Stakes at Lexington, Ky., on April 9. As of this morning, Brody’s Cause was ranked fifth in what could be a field of as many as 26 3-year-old horses.
Following Albaugh’s announcement, DMACC President Rob Denson told the crowd, “Tonight, I started betting on a horse. Never have I wanted a horse to win so badly.”
Denson provided a brief history of the school, explaining that the Iowa Legislature and then-Gov. Harold Hughes created Iowa’s community college system from scratch in 1966. Today, the school has more than 60,000 full- and part-time students at campuses in six communities: Ankeny, Des Moines, West Des Moines, Boone, Carroll and Newton.
