Troubled Greenwood Pond pops algae again

Even after a dredging project, Greenwood Pond continues to fight algae, The Des Moines Register reported. The pond is the site of a decades-old environmental sculpture by artist Mary Miss that was intended to make the pond a living laboratory offering unusual perspectives on wetlands and the water. But it has been plagued by choking algae almost from the time it was finished. The dredging and improvements to the boardwalk and other facilities were intended to spruce the place up and give it new life. City officials are looking into why the algae is returning so soon.
