Iowa Workforce Development announced it will phase out the option for Iowans to file  unemployment claims, effective Oct. 1. The agency said that the majority of unemployment claims are already filed online and that moving the process entirely online will help ensure more timely and accurate benefit payouts to individuals because a detailed record is provided with a time and date stamp. Employers will benefit with the focus on online filing through reduced administrative costs and reduction of fraud by eliminating improper payments, Unemployment Insurance Division Officer David West said in a release.
