UI’s stay-in-lane car a move toward driverless vehicles
A black Volvo SUV at the University of Iowa knows how to keep in its own lane, a step toward making vehicles more autonomous, The Des Moines Register reported. The technology is meant to keep distracted drivers out of trouble, and drifting off the road is the top killer of drivers, an official with UI’s National Advanced Driving Simulator said. The university also is working to create virtual cities that will help test autonomous vehicles, and detailed maps that will help the new vehicles get around.
