In honor of a 50-year partnership between Callanan Middle School and American Enterprise Group Inc., the Des Moines-based insurer will host a picnic lunch for students on Friday. Several executives and leaders from AEG will serve lunch to the middle schoolers. Under the leadership of Watson Powell, AEG began a business-school partnership in 1968 with the school at 3010 Center St. Since then, employees have helped students plant trees, assisted with field days, provided school supplies, given essentials to families, and for the past 18 years, mentored students. AEG has also provided financial support for students to attend live artistic performances, artists-in-residence, museum visits, school supplies and library books. “We feel very fortunate to have had this long-standing partnership with Callanan,” said Tom Swank, CEO at AEG. “It has been so rewarding for our employees to get to know the students and have a positive impact on these special group of teenagers, and I look forward to attending Friday’s celebration.”
