RDG Planning and Design’s artist and creative director, David Dahlquist, was honored last week by Gov. Terry Branstad and the Iowa Arts Council for multiple public art projects, including the High Trestle Bridge. Dahlquist was among four recipients of the Governor’s Arts Awards. Also honored was a Des Moines Community Schools project — Turnaround Arts — which uses the arts to help turn around lower-performing schools, narrow the achievement gap and develop a strong sense of community. Outside Greater Des Moines, ArtHaus, of Decorah, was recognized for bringing visual, performing and literary art to creative educational and cultural programs for all ages. The Fort Dodge Community Foundation and United Way, Fort Dodge partnership, was honored for designated one employee to coordinate community arts events and expand the reach of the Fort Dodge Fine Arts Association.
