TMG clients now issuing ‘tap and go’ debit cards
Some financial institutions in Iowa are beginning to issue the newest generation of EMV debit cards with “tap and go” capability, according to Clive-based payments processor company TMG. About five of some 75 financial institutions that partner with TMG in Iowa are issuing dual-interface debit cards, said Chole Casber, a TMG project manager. Dual interface cards enable users to tap the card at a terminal rather than inserting it into a chip card reader or swiping it on a conventional card reader. The cards provide an alternate way for customers to check out more quickly and also groom customers and merchants for future mobile payment experiences, Casber said. Overall, EMV chip card transactions account for nearly 21 percent of all card-present transactions, while dual interface make up about 1 percent of transactions.
