Blackbird to unveil latest Walnut Street tower plans Oct. 4

Plans call for a 26-story apartment building with a swimming pool jutting over the edge. Des Moines-based Blackbird Investments has lined up a CA Ventures of Chicago as an equity partner in the $85 million project. CA Ventures will provide up to $25 million for the $85 million downtown high-rise, called 701 Walnut, on the site of the former Younkers building at Seventh and Walnut streets. Next door is the Wilkins Building, which Blackbird is renovating for $20 million. The board meets at 7:30 a.m. at the Richard A. Clark Municipal Service Center,1551 E. Martin Luther King Jr. Parkway.
