College-bound? ICAN reminds families of new Oct. 1 FAFSA start
Wondering what to do this weekend? If you have kids entering or in college, you may want to think about filling out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid, which for the first time will become available on Oct. 1 rather than Jan. 1. This earlier release date provides students and parents with the opportunity to receive information about their financial aid packages earlier, which provides them with the details necessary to make informed decisions about planning and paying for college. Students and parents should take advantage of the extra time to complete the form using 2015 tax data, said Brittania Morey, Iowa College Access Network director of communications. ICAN provides free FAFSA completion assistance at each of its nine locations. Appointments are free and can be scheduled online. Also, walk-in FAFSA completion events are available through the FAFSA Ready Iowa program; a schedule can be found here.
