OK, let’s just say that if you are interested in transportation issues and how technology and various policies can change Greater Des Moines, Wednesday is going to keep you busy.
  • The day starts off with the Business Record’s Power Breakfast, 7 a.m. at the Des Moines Embassy Club in the Ruan Center. We have five of the top voices on transportation, community development and regional planning lined up to offer insights and take questions.
  • At 4:30 p.m., the Des Moines Area Regional Transit Authority holds a reception at the State Historical Building to mark its 10th anniversary since the DART name and structure took over for the old MTA. This will be a bit of a kickoff for discussion of the draft DART Forward 2035update, which will be the subject of a series of meetings in October.

  • At 5:30 p.m. at the same location, former Chicago transportation chief Gabe Klein appears as part of the Tomorrow Plan speaker series to discuss how supporting bike lanes, mass transit and alternative transportation are good for the bottom line because they save money. He comes as Greater Des Moines studies downtown mobility, water trails and river-related recreation, and long-range changes for DART. The event is free and open to the public.
