The neighborhood, which used to be home to Habitat, was devastated by the 2008 floods. Prior to the flood, 270 homes occupied Birdland, now there are only 54. Since the 2008 flood, the Army Corp of Engineers have certified the rebuilt levee and now Habitat is planning a build in the area next year, and also plans to start work on a unique affordable home pocket neighborhood, in addition to an event that will help repair and spruce up existing homes in the neighborhood. In total, it plans a minimum of 28 new homes. You can learn more and watch a video about the project here: http://bit.ly/2dBrPgQ
