House sales slip in September, but remain above year-ago levels

Sales and pending sales of houses in Greater Des Moines dropped slightly in September from August, but remained above year-ago levels, according to the Des Moines Area Association of Realtors. According to the Realtors monthly report, 1,206 houses were sold in September, down from 1,252 in August but above the 1,100 that were sold in September 2015. The median price of houses sold last month was $180,000, compared with $181,890 in August and $176,000 a year ago. Contracts were written last month for the sales of 1,206 houses, compared with 1,252 pending sales in August and 1,100 in September 2015. Houses sold in September were on the market an average of 91 days, up from 89 days the previous month and 57 days a year ago. There are 3,438 houses for sale in a market made up primarily of Dallas, Guthrie, Jasper, Madison, Marion, Polk and Warren counties.
