Volunteers will pack hundreds of bags of food today that shoppers can purchase and donate for STAR 102.5’s “Combat Hunger,” the annual November event that raises food and funds for the Food Bank of Iowa. Bags will be for sale beginning today at all Des Moines-area Price Chopper and Cash Saver Locations. All bags purchased can then be donated in the special “Combat Hunger” bin located inside each store. Two sizes of bags will be available for purchase; they will be packed with items such as long grain rice, canned fruit, canned vegetables, cereal, canned soup and canned tuna. The annual food drop-off and fundraising event is scheduled Nov. 17 and 18 downtown at the corner of 12th and Locust; donations can also be arranged at schools and businesses.
