Latina Leadership Initiative names new executive director

Vivian de la Cruz has been named executive director of the Latina Leadership Initiative of Greater Des Moines. She is a Class of 2015 graduate of the program, and the former president and board chair of LLI as well as a founder of the LLI Alumni Association. While participating in Latina Leadership Initiative, she completed her degree at Iowa State University, where she also helped launch a new Latina sorority. For her LLI community service project, de la Cruz worked with Iowa KidsNet to raise awareness about the need for more Latino foster parents in the state of Iowa. A Des Moines native, de la Cruz is currently an asset development associate with the United Way of Central Iowa Financial Capability Network at the Evelyn K. Davis Center for Working Families. She succeeds Christina Fernandez-Morrow in the position, and began her new role on Sept. 20.
