Des Moines gained jobs in last 10 years, report shows
Des Moines lost private sector jobs in 2010, but was one of the top gainers in the past 10 years among the 100-largest labor markets, according to information from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics compiled by Business First in Buffalo.
Des Moines lost 100 jobs from December 2009 to December 2010, but gained 15,500 from December 2000, the 15th-most of the top 100 markets.
That equaled a 6 percent increase. Des Moines had 256,400 private-sector jobs in December 2000 and 271,900 in December 2010.
