Sivyer Steel Corp. to pay civil penalty
Bettendorf-based Sivyer Steel Corp. has agreed to pay a $54,786 civil penalty and clean up residual used oil that may have leaked from its storage tanks.
The payment is part of a settlement with Environmental Protection Agency Region 7 for violations of hazardous waste regulations at its facility. A March 2010 inspection found several violations of the federal Resource Conservation and Recovery Act, which regulates the storage and disposal of hazardous waste.
Sivyer Steel must act within 30 days to demonstrate that its containers are properly labeled and that areas of the facility that were contaminated have been cleaned up.
