Energy academy receives Power Fund grant
The Des Moines Independent Community School District’s Iowa Energy & Sustainability Academy (IESA) has received a $43,000 grant from the Iowa Power Fund to support a project-based energy and environmental science class.
The IESA is a two-year program that is designed to teach students about alternative energy and environmental science with college-level instruction.
The grant was given to help pay for student field trips and general classroom supplies, and to purchase a solar/wind training system that includes curriculum to demonstrate how wind turbines and solar cells are being used in the consumer and industrial markets.
