Iowa now ranks as the 16th-healthiest state in the nation, according to new Gallup-Healthways Well-Being Index results released this morning. The rating moves Iowa up three places from its 2010 ranking as the 19th-healthiest state. The annual rankings are based on more than 353,000 surveys conducted nationwide in 2011, including 4,439 surveys in Iowa. On a scale of 0 to 100, with 100 representing ideal well-being, Iowa received an overall well-being score of 67.4, up from 66.9 in 2010. The index is being used to track Iowa’s progress toward the Healthiest State Initiative goal of reaching the No. 1 ranking within the next five years. Iowa showed improvement in all but one of the five health categories that make up the index. Click here to view the national report. To view Iowa’s report, click here.
