Startup Weekend event draws more participants and ideas
More than 100 people attended Startup Weekend at StartupCity Des Moines. More than 40 people pitched business ideas, and out of those ideas participants formed 16 teams with the intent of turning their concept into a start-up business. StartupCity Principal Tej Dhawan said there were “significantly more” attendees, presenters and teams than at past Startup Weekend events. Teams worked from Friday night until late Sunday afternoon, and presented their products Sunday evening. The winning start-up was a product called “doodle cloud,” a virtual drawing application designed for children, which was the brainchild of StartupCity resident Matthew Smith.
