Iowa taxable sales up 4.9 percent
Total retail sales in Iowa were 4.9 percent higher than the previous fiscal year, according to a year-end report released Monday by the Iowa Department of Revenue. The state collected $2.06 billion in retail sales tax for the fiscal year ended June 30, 2012, on sales of $34.5 billion. The number of quarterly returns filed increased from 342,381 in fiscal year 2011 to 343,944 in fiscal year 2012, a 0.5 percent increase.
