Mike LaFavore is resigning as editorial director of Meredith Corp.’s magazines to return to editorial consulting, a Meredith spokesman confirmed today.

Mediaweek reported yesterday that LaFavore told Meredith Publishing Group President Jack Griffin a month ago that he planned to quit but agreed to wait until the end of the quarter, which ends June 30.

Based in New York, LaFavore assumed the newly created position in October 2005. He is the founding editor of Men’s Health and former editor of TV Guide. More recently, he helped identify 120 filled and unfilled positions across the Des Moines-based company’s publishing operations to eliminate.

Meredith spokesman Art Slusark told the Business Record that the company is not sure whether someone will replace LaFavore. “When we brought Mike in, it was sort of a new creative position to take advantage of some of his deep editorial skills and we’re grateful of what he’s done during that time period,” he said.
