Vision Fuels LLC, located in Urbandale, has cut its plans to build three Iowa fuel ethanol plants to build just one plant. The company had plans to build two identical 110 million-gallon-per-year plants in Boone and Liscomb, Iowa, and is now only concentrating on a single site for a 110 million-gallon-per-year plant in Des Moines. Like many companies looking to build ethanol plants, projects have been canceled or put on hold because of record-high corn prices and market uncertainty.

The Chronicle of Higher Education today released the results of its “Great Colleges to Work For” survey conducted of college and university faculty and staff last spring which ranked Drake University in the top five nationally for institutions with 500 – 2,499 employees, in 11 categories.

The Des Moines Business Record has acquired the IowaBiz.com Web site and will continue it in the form of blogs by a dozen local experts. Drew McLellan, owner of McLellan Marketing Group and a Business Record columnist, took a lead role in organizing and maintaining the site, and will continue to write about marketing and branding. Bank of America Corp. has moved Countrywide Financial Corp.’s debt to an indirect unit owned by the banking giant, leaving it unclear whether BofA will back Countrywide’s huge debts. According to a filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission, Countrywide said Red Oak Merger Corp. assumed all of the California-based mortgage company’s financial obligations in conjunction with the July 1 purchase of Countrywide by BofA for $2.5 billion. BofA created Red Oak and remains its owner.

A sendoff celebration for Central Iowa’s Olympic competitors, gymnast Shawn Johnson and hurdler Lolo Jones, will be held today at the Iowa Events Center’s Hy-Vee Hall. The community sendoff begins at noon, and WHO-TV 13 Sports Director Keith Murphy will be the master of ceremonies. The event is free and open to the public. World-renowned opera singer and Centerville native Simon Estes will perform the national anthem, and Lt. Gov. Patty Judge will deliver remarks.

The Chrysalis Foundation’s next Business Partner “Lunch and Learn” event will take place Wednesday from 11:45 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. in the boardroom of the Iowa Workforce Development Center, 430 E.
