Name: Naim Munir

New position: Vice president and chief medical officer for Principal Financial Group Inc. He oversees all areas of medical management, with a focus on prevention, quality and cost-effective care delivery.

Vitals: After earning a medical degree from Rush Medical College in Chicago and completing his family practice residency, Munir ran a successful clinical practice in Phoenix before deciding he wanted to focus on the system-improvement aspect of health care. He most recently served as executive medical director for quality and care management at Horizon Blue Cross and Blue Shield of New Jersey. Prior to that, he served as chief operating officer of Amerigroup Corp. of New Jersey and as vice president for health services for PacifiCare’s Southwest region.

Job one: Continuing to develop innovative ideas focused on wellness and disease prevention, looking at initiatives that lead to early detection of disease, and working with hospitals and physicians to help ensure that Principal’s customers receive quality and affordable health care.
