Iowa State University’s College of Business was ranked 74th among programs accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business, up from 85th the previous year. Among public universities, ISU’s College of Business ranked 44th.
Muscatine-based HNI Corp. today said that it has named Kurt Tjaden as vice president and chief financial officer. Tjaden succeeds Jerry Dittmer, who was appointed president of HON Co., a division of HNI, and executive vice president of HNI Corp. in March. Tjaden reports to Stan Askren, chairman, president and CEO of HNI. Prior to joining HNI, Tjaden was vice president and CFO for Asia at Whirlpool Corp.
The Iowa Women’s Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony was held Saturday, Aug. 23, at the State Historical Building in Des Moines. Four women were inducted: Barbara Boatwright, Des Moines; Marilyn Russell (deceased), Des Moines; Hualling Engle, Iowa City; and Joan Axel, Muscatine.
The Greater Des Moines Habitat for Humanity and the Home Builders Association of Greater Des Moines are joining efforts to build two homes this week as part of the Home Builders Blitz. Launched nationally in 2006, the project is a partnership between residential homebuilding professionals and Habitat for Humanity to provide homes for families in need. Des Moines’ event will take place at 1226 and 1228 10th St., Des Moines. Walls were expected to be raised by this morning, with the homes completed in five days. Principal Financial Group Inc. will have a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the Principal Child Development Center on Wednesday, Aug. 27, at 5:30 p.m. The new 32,000-square-foot “green” facility opened downtown on Aug. 18. It accepts employees’ children ranging from 6 weeks old to preschool.
