A group attempting to oust three Iowa Supreme Court justices is facing new opposition from an organization called Fair Courts for Us, whose members include former Gov. Robert Ray, former Lt. Gov. Arthur Neu and former first lady Christine Vilsack.

Also among its members is Dan Moore, campaign secretary and treasurer during the gubernatorial campaign of Robert Vander Plaats, who is leading the effort to oust the judges.

Fair Courts for Us is urging a “yes” vote to retain the judges, who came under fire from Vander Plaats and conservative groups for ruling that it was a violation of the Iowa Constitution to outlaw same-sex marriages.

Fair Courts for Us said it is launching a grass-roots campaign to counter “false claims being spread by outside special interest groups regarding Iowa’s Supreme Court and judicial system.”
