The city of Des Moines’ engineering department has issued a request for proposals seeking a consultant to analyze the energy usage of five downtown office buildings. The buildings are the Hub Tower, 699 Walnut St.; the Bank of America building, 317 Sixth Ave.; the AmerUs Life building, 611 Fifth Ave.; 420 Watson Powell Jr. Way; and the Midland Building, 206 Sixth Ave.

The consultant will report on where energy is consumed in each facility and identify potential savings. Part of the resulting report will “identify improvements that provide the greatest marketability value,” according to the request.

The project focuses on suitability for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification, and the consultant will be required to inform both the city and the building owner of the value and process of such certification.

Proposals are due on Feb. 28 and will be valid for 120 days.
