The music and movie industries both took on a major transformation today thanks to Google Inc., Reuters reported.

Google-owned YouTube is adding more than 3,000 mainstream movies for users to rent starting next Monday. YouTube is offering a mix of recent Hollywood blockbusters, independent and foreign movies for 99 cents up to $3.99 each.

YouTube signed deals with major studios, including Time Warner Inc.’s Warner Bros., Sony Corp.’s Sony Pictures, Comcast Corp.’s Universal Pictures and Lions Gate Entertainment.

Also today, Google launched an online music service that allows users to store and access their songs wherever they are, similar to a service launched by Amazon.com Inc. in March.

Like the Amazon Cloud Drive player, the Google music service – called Music Beta by Google – is being introduced without any prior licensing deals with major music labels. The new service will allow a user to upload up to 20,000 songs on the service, and a demo unveiled today showed a range of music player features for managing songs in a user’s library.
