American Equity income jumps
West Des Moines-based American Equity Investment Life Holding Co., an underwriter of index and fixed-rate annuities, on Wednesday reported third-quarter 2011 operating income of $41.5 million, or 67 cents per share. The result represents an increase of 50 percent compared with 2010 third-quarter operating income of $27.6 million, or 45 cents per share. Annuity sales for the third quarter of 2011 increased 4 percent to $1.27 billion compared with $1.22 billion in the year-earlier period.
