Health literacy conference begins Friday

Health Literacy Iowa, in partnership with New Readers of Iowa, is hosting the first conference of its kind in the state. “Health Literacy in Iowa: Partnering to Change Research into Action” conference will be held April13-14 at the Iowa Methodist Medical Center Education and Research Center in Des Moines. Roughly 88 percent of Americans lack proficient ability to obtain, process and understand basic health information needed to make appropriate care decisions. In Iowa, low health literacy costs an estimated $2 billion to $4 billion per year in related health-care expenses. The public is invited to attend.
