Ankeny receives transportation funds for Deere project
The Iowa Transportation Commission yesterday awarded the city of Ankeny a $6.2 million grant to support the expansion of the John Deere Des Moines Works in Ankeny as well as future development. The Revitalizing Iowa’s Sound Economy grant will support the reconstruction of Southwest Irvinedale Drive between Oralabor Road and Southwest Third Street Place. The reconstruction of Irvinedale will create a four-lane roadway with raised medians, turn lanes, curbs and pedestrian walkways on both sides of the street. The project also includes an asphalt overlay of Southwest Third Street Place between Irvinedale Drive and Linden Street. In December, Deere & Co. confirmed its plans to construct a new 300,000-square-foot assembly building at the Ankeny plant.
