In December 2011, 642 homes were sold in Greater Des Moines, a 13 percent increase from the previous year. For all of last year, 7,877 homes were sold, an increase of 200 from the previous year, the Des Moines Area Association of Realtors said today. Homes were on the market for an average of 118 days last month, and there were 4,392 active listings. The median sale price was $143,000. Des Moines was added to the National Association of Home Builders list of improving housing markets. The list identifies metropolitan areas that have shown improvement in housing permits, employment and home prices for at least six consecutive months.
