More rain needed to save corn crop
Rainfall last week slowed the deterioration of Iowa’s corn crop, but Iowa Agriculture Secretary Bill Northey said the state still needs more rain.
In the week that ended July 22, 37 percent of the state’s corn crop was listed as being in fair condition. Last week, that number dropped to 34 percent.
“The rain received last week was very welcomed but much more is needed to stop the further deterioration of both the corn and soybean crops,” Northey said in a release. “Livestock farmers are having to move animals off pasture and use hay and other feed they had anticipated using over the winter months.”
