Des Moines’ Sixth Avenue to get EPA help
A one-mile section of Sixth Avenue north of downtown Des Moines has been selected to receive technical assistance for green infrastructure design under an Environmental Protection Agency program called Greening America’s Capitals. The benefits will include wider sidewalks, narrower traffic lanes, better lighting, improved bus stop shelters, permeable pavement and rain gardens that can minimize storm water runoff. A team of designers and landscape architects who specialize in green infrastructure will produce designs and illustrations during a three-day design workshop.
