Only a handful of condominium units were purchased in downtown Des Moines during the first quarter of 2008, according to Polk County assessor’s records.

A buyer paid $403,900 for a sixth-floor condo at the Whiteline Lofts, 120 S.W. Fifth St., in January; the developers sold five units during 2007 at prices ranging from $134,900 to $1.12 million.

Two units have sold this year at the Brownstones on Grand, located on Grand Avenue between Second Avenue and Third Street, for $314,900 and $528,290. In 2007, five units were sold.

A ninth-floor condo in the Liberty Building, 418 Sixth Ave., was purchased for $279,000 in March. Two fourth-floor units sold in 2007, for $152,000 and $286,500.

At Mulberry Lofts, 112 11th St., a buyer paid $107,650 for a second-floor condo in February. Seven units were purchased in 2007.

No sales have been recorded so far this year at the Equitable Building, 111 City Lofts or 301 East Court.
